Think you might have a Urinary Tract Infection? There may be no need to book an appointment with your GP practice.

Participating local pharmacies can provide immediate advice & treatment for a UTI for women aged 16-64 – with no appointment required.

The service inclusion criteria is listed as follows;

Non-pregnant women aged 16-64 years, presenting with two or more of the following symptoms:

• Dysuria (burning pain when passing urine)

• Nocturia (passing urine more often than usual at night)

• Urgency (when the pressure in the bladder builds suddenly, and it becomes difficult to hold in)

• Frequency (passing urine more often than usual)

• Visible haematuria (urine that is visibly discoloured by blood or blood clot)


There may be instances where, after assessment at the pharmacy, patients are not suitable for the service, in which case they would be referred to their GP practice.
